LSTM Seminar Series: Why the details of heterogeneities in pathogen load and transmission matter for policy design? 18 June 2013
LSTM’s seminar series continued this week with a presentation by Dr Deirdre Hollingsworth, Deirdre joined LSTM in January 2013 as a joint appointment between the University of Warwick (UoW) and LSTM. Dr Hollingsworth works within LSTM’s Centre for Applied Health Research and Delivery (CAHRD) as an infectious disease modeller who uses mathematical and statistical methods to inform the design of more effective control programmes, for HIV and soil transmitted helminths (STH).

T-REC PhD Student wins Ghana’s ‘Outstanding Female Doctor Award’ 2013 17 June 2013
T-REC PhD student, Dr. Lucy Asamoah-Akuoko (right on picture), received the ‘Outstanding Female Doctor’ award in the Ghana Women’s Awards 2013. Lucy works with the National Blood Service (NBS) of Ghana and is researching strategies to encourage repeat donations among first-time voluntary and replacement blood donors in Ghana. Her PhD project is a collaboration between the Universities of Ghana, Liverpool and Copenhagen.

Liverpool Health Partners (LHP): Excellence through collaboration 14 June 2013
Representatives of the nine founding partners of LHP attended a showcase event in Liverpool’s Town Hall on Thursday. Chief executives; chairs; research and development directors; clinicians and others of the 7 regional NHS trusts; the University of Liverpool and LSTM were joined by industry representatives and invited external guests. After the opening and welcome address of Sir Ian Gilmore, the Chairman of LHP, they listened to a number of presentations highlighting the importance of this collaborative approach and its importance for the region.
